Motorists using the 27-kilometre Nairobi Expressway can now top up their Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) and Manual Toll Collection (MTC) cards from the comfort of their homes through a USSD code.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 12, Moja Expressway, a subsidiary of China Road and Bridge Corporation, announced the new service indicating that motorists can either top up via mobile banking applications or the USSD code.
The operator affirmed that Kenyans can visit the website for more information regarding the application and usage of online toll cards.

For the MTC service, motorists swipe at the toll stations and the fee will be deducted based on the distance covered.
On the other hand, the ETC service uses a points-based system where points are deducted from the vehicle's On-Board Unit (OBU) that was pre-installed.
One is required to pay a minimum fee of Ksh2,000 which will be deducted when the motorist uses the expressway. The points are, however, equivalent to the amount hence Ksh3,000 is equal to 3,000 points.
"You need to pay a minimum fee of Ksh2,000 but when you pay Ksh5,000 and above, you won't need to pay the Ksh1,000 service charge, hence the whole amount will go towards the toll points. For the ETC, their deductions are done automatically at the OBU (On-Board Unit) device," a representative previously told Kenyans.co.ke
