Residents of Kajiado Town on Sunday, September 25, protest the laxity of police officers in arresting a man suspected of killing two brothers over a land dispute.

Speaking to the media, they expressed fear that the 35-year-old suspect who allegedly killed the surviving brother of his first victim six months after going under the radar might strike again.

Purko Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Simon Saitoti claimed that the roaming suspect had a hit-list of individuals whom he vowed to deal with before surrendering himself.

"We are living in fear because the murderer returned to the same home and took yet another life. He is a threat to the peace and security of residents of this area.

"He listed five other individuals, including those who are not part of the family of his victims, whom he vowed to kill. We need their safety to be guaranteed," Saitoti declared.

In addition, they questioned why police officers were yet to take him into custody despite numerous sightings. They demanded that the suspect be fished out from his hideout sooner rather than later.

"We are asking for the government to bring the perpetrator to book because we know he lives among us. On several occasions, including yesterday (Saturday), I saw him walk past some of the homesteads," a second resident stated.

Kajiado County commander Muthuri Mwongera affirmed that detectives had been deployed to hunt down the suspect behind the murder of the two brothers.

"Two lives have been lost through murder. As security agencies, we will not rest until we ensure we get hold of the suspect to face the wrath of the law, "Mwongera added.

Locals claim that the runaway criminal was hiding in the bush in the area and offered to direct the officers to areas where he had been spotted.

Meanwhile, the security of the individuals purported to be on the hit list as well as that of the aggrieved family has been beefed up.
