Veteran radio presenter, James Wokabi, has joined Nation Media Group (NMG) just three days after leaving Capital FM.

In statement on Wednesday, September 28, Wokabi announced that he had penned a deal with Nation FM, one of NMG's brands, where he will host a new show, Sport On.

Wokabi, who had amassed 18 years at the Lonrho House-based broadcaster, will host the new radio show alongside NTV sports anchor Bernard Ndong.

Sport On will air every Saturday at 3 PM on 96.3 Nation FM , covering local and international sports ranging from soccer, basketball, rugby, athletics, e-sports and other sports disciplines.

Sport On, silently replaced Carol Radull's Game Plan show, which had been on air for almost a year. Radull, a sports enthusiast, hosted the show alongside Roy Karuhize and Kieni Githinji. The programme also aired on Nation FM every Saturday from 3-6 PM.

The trio had a similar show on KISS FM owned by Radio Africa Group, before moving to Nation FM.

However, following Wokabi's unveiling at the Twin Towers, several NMG journalists lauded him for taking up the role, arguing that it was a new step in spicing up sports coverage.

"Welcome my big brother James Wokabi to Nation Africa. This show with Bernard Ndong is simply what we sports fans have been asking for. Excited to see this," James Smart wrote.

"Starting this Saturday on your home of sports Nation FM, join James Wokabi and Bernard Ndong for Sport On," NTV Multimedia editor Oliver Mathenge wrote.

While signing off at Capital FM, Wokabi noted that the Station had accorded him a chance to showcase his talent and shape the sports agenda in the country.

"I feel melancholic as this has been my home since my early twenties. I've grown so much and all of it is anchored to Capital FM. Part of me feels sad because it's the end of a journey. I cannot take it for granted as it gave a villager from Nyeri a chance, for that, I'm forever grateful."

"I will miss the camaraderie in this place. The colleagues became family. Think about the conversations we had off-air," he stated.

He previously worked for Standard Newspaper, People Daily and International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF).

With Wokabi's signing a few months after plucking Ndong from Citizen TV, it is clear that NMG is keen on assembling a formidable sports team, to give the big boys in the industry a run for their money.

The giant media house is also home to Elias Makori, a polished and seasoned sports editor and a 2012 winner of the IAAF World Journalist of the Year Award.
