Lamu governor, Issa Timamy, was appointed the chairperson of the Council of Governor's Blue Economy Committee hours after he replaced Musalia Mudavadi as Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader.
Timamy rose to the apex of ANC party leadership after Mudavadi resigned, following his appointment as prime cabinet secretary.
The council of governors on Friday, October 28, ratified the decision to have Timamy lead the committee tasked with preserving and regenerating the marine environment.
His key task will be guiding the country in exploiting the blue economy.
The governor will also seek to exploit new markets through which county governments can tap into vast resources offered by the marine environment.
This includes expanding port operations to maximize revenue collection and grow the economy.
He will be deputized by Busia County governor, Paul Otuoma.
Meanwhile, Timamy was the pioneer governor of Lamu after he was elected on an ANC ticket in 2013.
He, however, lost his seat to Fahim Yasin Twaha five years later in 2017.
After staying in the cold for five years, Timamy recaptured his seat on an ANC ticket.
Timamy garnered 24,198 votes against Twaha’s 16,054 votes.
“I take this opportunity to welcome all Kenyans and tourists, both domestic and international, to come to Lamu.
"My target within my five-year tenure is to carry out development that would have normally been conducted in a ten-year period,” he pledged.
