The life of Ann Wanjiku Waigwa, a guard at Wilson airport took a turn for the better on Saturday, November 19 after the International Leadership University awarded her a full scholarship.

Waigwa was honoured with the scholarship during the institute’s graduation ceremony, with the top management celebrating her gesture of returning a lost bag that had Ksh2 million belonging to a tourist.

According to the university’s administration, the officer will further her studies. They awarded her the opportunity because of her honesty.

They praised her for standing out among thousands of security current officers whose level of trust has hit an all-time low.

“This year we have recognized a policewoman because in the image of many Kenyans police are not to be trusted, they are not people of integrity but there are some who are and we want to encourage those people to be taken persevere," Vice-Chancellor, Dr Tim Kiruhi stated.

The university management affirmed that awarding Waigwa with the scholarship, would serve as an example to other officers to be people of integrity.

"She, therefore, receives an award that is exemplary, an award that is going to be transformative, an award that leaves her with a lot of joy in her heart as opposed to the blame that she would have in her own self.

Our own emphasis is to develop leaders of integrity leaders that would face experience transformation in themselves and then step out to seek to transform out the community," Dr. Isaac Kalua, remarked.

More than 50 students graduated from the institute with the speakers emphasizing the need to develop leaders of morals from the institute.

Waigwa won Kenyans’ hearts after she refunded a  tourist's bag with over Ksh2 million inside during her working shift at Wilson airport.

The tourist who was on vacation in the country from the UK lost the bag after his trip to the famous Maasai Mara.

After the guard found it, she informed the tourist through a phone call since he had already left and told him that she was in possession of his lost items.
