Two Kenyan women in India were overcome by emotions after the local police returned Ksh2.2 million (rs 15 lakh) cash they had lost.

According to the police, the women filed a complaint at the Colaba Police Station a day after they misplaced the funds on Monday, November 21.

The two accidentally left the bag of cash in the cab, and the taxi sped off upon alighting.  

Mumbai police detailed that they used CCTV footage on the roads to trace the taxi the two women had used through its registration number.

"The women inquired about the cab for a while. Later, he contacted the police at around 9 pm," explained senior police inspector, Vijay Hatiskar.

Police located the taxi and the driver in the Kalbadevi area, where they seized the money. 

However, they did not disclose whether the driver would face any charges for vanishing with the cash. 

According to the police, he had initially denied being aware of the bag left by the two women. 

In a small group meeting, the cops presented the cash to the two women before taking a group photo.

Following the successful recovery mission, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Vivek Phansalkar declared that the team of police officers will be awarded.

Reportedly the duo was in the Asian country to buy clothes to be sold in Kenya.

They had allegedly booked accommodation at a local hotel.
