Cracks within the Azimio coalition have continued to widen after Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina told off East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) elected lawmaker Kanini Kega.

The vocal senator told the former Kieni Member of Parliament that he should be the last person to talk of betrayal by Azimio coalition.

“Kanini Kega ,as Azimio stood by you, I campaigned and voted for you and that is why you won,” Ledama remarked on Wednesday, November 23, refuting claims Kega was shortchanged.

The senator further revealed that the coalition chose Kega over former Ndaragwa member of parliament and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.

“We chose you over Jeremiah Kioni and that is a fact,” the Senator divulged the intrigues before the EALA vote.

Ledama’s statement came hours after Kega gave indication of cutting ties with Azimio wing, led by the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The EALA elect legislator had professed his loyalty to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, describing him as the most senior politician from the vote-rich region.

"Rigathi did well in uniting us, this is the only senior leader we have in Mt Kenya. We need to rally behind him as a region," Kega endorsed Gachagua as new Mt Kenya kingpin.

Kega lamented that he had been left out in the cold by his Azimio counterparts, despite giving his all in the run up to the polls.

"I thought my people from Azimio would support me but I was shocked when the voting was done.

Some of them voted for people I did not even recognise," Kega lamented in an interview on Inooro FM.

Kega’s sentiments came a few days after Gachagua revealed that he had rallied Mt Kenya UDA members of parliament to vote for him.

Speaking at Tharaka Nithi County on November 19, Gachagua revealed, “The time of elections is over and we should unite and that is why I urged our leaders to vote for Kanini Kega.”
