Former anti-corruption boss and lawyer, Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, on Monday, November 28, advised Nigerian leaders against the ills of corruption.

Lumumba spoke during the 10th Memorial Lecture in Honour of 2nd Republic Senate Leader, Olusola Saraki.

In his lecture titled The Leadership and Followership Debate, PLO made a rallying call for sober reflection on how and why leaders have failed to achieve good governance in Nigeria.

Lumumba was very blunt when he declared that instead of an economy hovering around Ksh13.4 million (N500 million), it ought to be at Ksh1.1 trillion (N4 trillion).

Furthermore, the former anti-corruption boss highlighted several consequences that leaders were likely to suffer if they continued entertaining corruption.

“I am suggesting that Africa is not going to realise her potential.

"As long as we continue to conduct the politics of money and money bags, not the politics of ideas," PLO indicated in his speech.

According to Lumumba, history has proven that citizens can topple bad governments whenever they are fed up.

“When you are leading human beings, they are not like cattle," he warned, arguing that a day of reckoning would come.

“History has demonstrated that presidents have been removed," he told the attendees at the event.

The Kenyan lawyer, who recently lost his Facebook account to hackers, indicated that history has demonstrated that a revolution can surface in the twinkling of an eye.

According to the event organisers, Lumumba was selected as the keynote speaker owing to his advocacy for Pan Africanism and his stance to speak truth to power.
