Dagoretti North Member of Parliament, Beatrice Elachi, on Tuesday, December 20 launched a leadership training exercise that seeks to provide scholarships to nominated and elected leaders.
Elachi, while speaking at Parliament buildings in Nairobi, implored the legislators to take up the program and enhance their leadership skills.
“It is a program that has supported us and enlightened us. The program has enhanced our leadership skills, and many women who have gone through it have benefitted," Elachi stated.
"Some are in the counties while we are in Parliament, and this program needs dedication and commitment,” she added.
The legislator, the ambassador and beneficiary of the European Business University of Luxembourg, was offered 1000 scholarships to disburse by the institution.
She equally revealed that she was looking into identifying a hub to host those who will be picked for the program.
"I am trying to look for a place where we can put up a hub with access to the internet so that these women can school online. This will help especially the informal sectors as we proceed," she added.
Beneficiaries of this program are women Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), elected women leaders and will be recruited across the board.
"We will start mentoring nominated and try and push them, especially those who were nominated or elected so that by 2027 they can come up and vie for elective positions," she revealed.
Elachi further informed that the program would help the legislators have the skills and knowledge to prepare bills, motions and statements in the legislature.
"This program is important because skills acquired in training will equip them to prepare and draft bills, motions and statements.
"They will understand the importance of research so that whatever is brought on the floor of the house benefits women, youth and the elderly," she detailed.
Elachi equally revealed that she won her Dagoretti North seat due to the training she got from the program.
The European Business University of Luxembourg was established by a Kenyan Economist James Mulli who hails from Misiani village, Kangundo, in Machakos County.
He established the European Business University of Luxembourg (EBU), which today offers opportunities for students to study online from many parts of the world.
