A driver was caught on CCTV camera speeding off a pump station after fueling petrol worth Ksh10,000.

The incident, which happened in a petrol station located at Rabai along Jogoo Road in Nairobi, surfaced on Wednesday, January 4.

Sikika Road Safety announced that the incident was captured on December 31, 2022.

With the driver speeding off without making payment, the fuel attendant was reportedly left to pay the bill.

The petrol station reported the matter to the police through an Occurrence Book (OB) number seen by Kenyans.co.ke.

Subsequently, an appeal was made through Sikika Road Safety to the National Police Service to help apprehend the driver.

“We appeal the police department to arrest the driver because now the fuel attendant will be forced to pay for the fuel,” the appeal read in part.

An hour after the public appeal was made, the owner's identity was revealed, with the public pushing him to offset the bill.

“Good news, the owner of the vehicle has been found and he will pay for the fuel,” Sikika Road Safety updated.

In a public statement, the owner of the vehicle distanced himself from the incident, arguing that it was driven by a client.

“Yes, that is my car but I am not the one who sped off."

“I usually give it out as car hire and I request to know the date of the incident so that I can trace who was driving it that day,” the owner posted.

The owner of the vehicle further apologized to the petrol station for the inconvenience that the driver caused.
