Former Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) presenter Bonnie Musambi on Friday, January 20, announced that he opened his own Radio station.

Musambi noted that the station, which began in 2020 as an online audio publishing and streaming platform under the brand name Sang'u, was metamorphosed into a fully-fledged live on-location station.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Musambi explained that the station was launched with the aim of becoming a leading source of information, education and entertainment.

Sang'u FM, which broadcasts in the Kamba language, is based in Nairobi but mainly covers Eastern parts of the country including Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties.

"Currently, Sang'u FM is available on location, Mobile App and its websites where its programmes are well outlined," Musambi explained.

The Kamba word sang’u loosely means ‘too much sweetness’. The station broadcasts on 93.4 FM frequency in Kitui and Machakos, and 96.2 FM in Makueni.

Musambi expressed his confidence in winning over a big chunk of Kamba's audience noting that Sang'u was growing exponentially.

"We have advertisers who came on board after conducting their own market surveys and determining our audience capacity," Musambi explained.

Musambi further clarified that the station sought to create an airwave driven by the tagline, 'Vaa nivo kwaku’ which means, ‘this is where you belong’.

During his tenure at KBC, Musambi served as a presenter on the prime-time Kiswahili News bulletin popularly known as Darubini

He left the state-owned broadcaster after working for over 14 years, mainly as a News Anchor and a radio talk show host on Radio Taifa, to join the political world.

Musambi contested the Kitui Central MP race in the August 2022 General Election but lost to Dr Makali Mulu, who he congratulated after conceding defeat.

"My political journey begins officially! Despite open and daylight massive rigging in Kitui County including Kitui Central constituency, I emerged as a strong number two out of 7," Musambi told Journalists.

Musambi who joined President William Ruto's UDA just a month before the August 2022 General Election, expressed his gratitude to the Head of State for his support.

"On a very positive note, am very happy to have delivered the highest number of Ruto's votes among ALL Ukambani constituencies. Kitui Central led," he added.
