Rebel Jubilee Party Members of Parliament vowed to kick secretary general, Jeremiah Kioni, out of office before the National Delegates Conference (NDC) scheduled for March 24.

In a rebuttal to the NDC convened by Kioni, East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega on Tuesday, February 21, stated that they were waiting for the courts to decide the legality of changes in Jubilee leadership.

Kega maintained that Kioni, who represents party leader Uhuru Kenyatta, would not have the power to move any motion in the March 24 NDC, where elections of new officials was listed as a top priority.

However, Kega did not detail their next move should the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) rule in favour of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's faction.

The tribunal is set to rule on the changes in Jubilee leadership on February 24. The pro-President William Ruto faction ousted Kioni and David Murathe as secretary general and vice chairman, respectively.

"We are not going to prosecute the matter through the media until the court pronounces itself on this matter. But I can assure you that those who are planning the NDC will be out of the office before it takes place," Kega stated.

In response, Kioni insisted that the slated elections would continue, adding that the team led by Kega and nominated MP Sabina Chege had underestimated Uhuru.

This followed Sabina's claims that Uhuru was not hands-on with the issues affecting the former ruling party.

"People imagined that when they don't hear the former President speaking, they can do things the manner in whichever way they think. The party leader is very present in the party.

"Of course, if they are people who are disruptive, they will be kicked out," Kioni responded.

He also maintained that he would allow another person to succeed him as secretary general should he be removed procedurally.

Kioni convened an NDC slated for March 24, at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) to allow the members to hold elections for party officials.
