Newly appointed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General Cleophas Malala on Monday, February 27, revealed intricate details of a meeting with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi that influenced his decision to ditch Amani National Congress (ANC).

Speaking at a press conference shortly after his unveiling, Malala noted that an agreement was reached with Mudavadi after he expressed his interest to clinch the UDA role.

The former Kakamega Senator noted that the UDA leadership sought his services as they deemed him fit to replace his predecessor, nominated Senator Veronica Maina.

Malala further recognised Mudavadi's efforts in moulding him and preparing him for his future political career.

" As you all know I was a member of the ANC and I want to thank my former party leader, Musalia Mudavadi for mentoring me.

"He gave me a platform and position to play in his party in which my current team identified me and requested to have the services of my talent in this very party," Malala revealed.

The former Kakamega Senator also claimed that the Registrar of Parties recognised him as a member of the UDA party and not ANC. The politician urged his followers to join him in his journey.

"We discussed with him (Mudavadi) and we agreed that I should leave. We don't do things in secrecy," he pointed out.

The former senator expressed confidence that the UDA party would deliver on the promises made during the campaign period.

"I want to state that UDA is going to be the biggest party since independence because we have sat down with the party leadership and agreed to open up doors for people to come and join our party.

"We won't be hostile to people who even think otherwise. This is going to be a party that accommodates all divergent views that are going to build this party," he continued.

While detailing his role, Malala noted that he would work with the legislative arm to ensure the government delivers on its promises.

"My role will be to ensure that we monitor the campaign promises and work closely with the leadership of the legislative arm. We shall be monitoring the members of the executive CSs, PSs, and any government official. It will be our sole role to ensure that promises made are achieved," he noted.
