Pastor Dorcas Rigathi on Wednesday, March 8, was nicknamed 'Rigathress' by Kenyans on social media barely days after she indicated that she was waiting for a moniker.

The nickname which trended online for the better part of Wednesday stemmed from a social media post of the Second Lady attending a conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

In a post on Twitter by the user -Wangwe- he had wondered what the spouse of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was doing in the US.

Pastor Dorcas was in the company of Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa among other government officials. She had been invited to share her projects aimed at empowering the boy child.

"This government is hilarious. Why is Rigathress in New York?" he posed.

Consequently, Kenyans joined in the debate as they sought to understand the story behind the name given that Pastor Dorcas had stated that she was waiting to be nicknamed while speaking at a conference on March 2.

At the event held at the University of Nairobi (UoN), she acknowledged that her husband had already been nicknamed Riggy G which had become popular among his family and friends including President William Ruto.

“Nowadays my husband is called Riggy G, I am still waiting for my name,” she stated then.

In the debate, a number of online users wondered what her take would be on the name given to her by Kenyans.

"Rigathress, which apparently  'she had asked for'. The original tweet wasn't a feel-good Riggy G type. It was questioning in what capacity she had attended the New York event," British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Ferdinant Omondi commented.

Gachagua's nickname Riggy G was coined by Ivy Chelimo weeks before the August 9 elections owing to his performance at the presidential debate in July 2022.

Notably, Chelimo landed a job after she met the Deputy President at his office.

"This lady is called Ivy Chelimo. She changed my name from Rigathi Gachagua and called me Riggy G. I have looked for her and awarded her a job opportunity in my office,” he stated then.
