National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah on Wednesday, April 5, threatened to write to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over Azimio  leader Raila Odinga's political agenda.

Speaking at Kikuyu Constituency, Kiambu County, the Member of Parliament accused Raila of trying to arm-twist his way into government.

He noted that he would propose the idea in the Kenya Kwanza's Parliamentary Group meeting to be held on Tuesday, April 11, and if approved he would petition the ICC to have Odinga on its watch list.

The legislator rejected the National Accord route proposed by Raila, accusing the ODM party leader of harbouring selfish interests to benefit himself by trying to get into the government.

"He is threatening that if we don't agree to the National Accord proposal, he will continue with the mass action. We want to tell Raila that we don't have any problems with you conducting mass demonstrations. The only caveat is you do it peacefully.

"I will propose an agenda in Parliament, that we write to ICC to take measures to ensure that Raila Odinga and his sponsors do not slide our country back into anarchy.

"We are telling Raila Odinga, your system of looting, anarchy to blackmail the country will come to an end, and not next year, not after the next elections, it will come to an end this year," Kimani Ichung'wah stated.

His position was echoed by South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro  and Kenya Kwanza Whip in the National Assembly who revealed that the ruling regime would announce the members to be involved in the bi-partisan talks during the PG meeting.

Raila had indicated that a purely Parliamentary process could not conclusively address the current political standoff.

The Azimio leader added that a team would formulate a committee of 14 members who would make the decision and take it to Parliament for approval.

"We want this process to be akin to that Kofi Annan led. We want it to be a people-driven process."

"We will have our members of parliament negotiating with their members of parliament, but we will also have a team to which the members will be reporting to. There will be no handshake, but an engagement in Parliament. Whatever can be resolved will be resolved," Raila stated in a press briefing on April 4, 2023.
