Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday, April 25, revealed that the third edition of the Forbes Under 30 African Summit would be hosted in Kenya later in the year.

The DP noted that the decision was reached after a meeting he held with the organisers during his trip to the second edition of the Summit in Gaborone, Botswana.

He stated that the upcoming summit will be a great opportunity for Kenyan youth because it recognises and empowers young entrepreneurs.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the organisers and the great team behind the Forbes Under 30 Africa Summit that is taking place in Gaborone, Botswana, for accepting Kenya's request to host the Third Edition of the prestigious event later this year.

“I would like to assure the team of Randall Lane, the Chief Content Officer of Forbes Media and Editor of Forbes Magazine, Julius Mwale, industrial entrepreneur, investor and Principal of Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC), Shivish Soni of Sun Group, among other players with whom I had a fruitful engagement with that Kenya will deliver,” Gachagua stated.

Further, the Deputy President noted that hosting the summit would put Kenya on the global map and expose youth to learning from others on an international level.

He added that Kenya will gain greatly from the boost in tourism because thousands of delegates will stay in the country during the period.

“Entrepreneurship opportunities are infinite, especially in the digital age. Besides putting Kenya on the world map as a leading tourism destination, the thousands of vibrant, tech-savvy youth of our country will be exposed to learning from each other

"Getting to be a thought leader in an industry requires no magic, but hard work, determination, and keeping the eye on the ball," the DP added.

Gachagua addressed several concerns during the trip including the investment of Kenyans in the diaspora back in the country.

He lauded the Kenyans in Diaspora for leading foreign exchange earnings in remittances sent back home noting that the government was working on a framework to allow them to safely invest back home without worrying about being duped by their relatives or unscrupulous real-estate developers.

"The remittances you send home lead in terms of foreign exchange earnings. It's ahead of coffee, tea and tourism. As you plan to return home one day, we are aware that you would also want to invest in Kenya," stated Gachagua.
