Gibendi Ramenya Joins TV47 as Head of Digital Innovations

Former Managing Director at Tuko Media, Gibendi Ramenya, on Tuesday, May 2, officially took over the reins at TV47 Digital.

A statement signed by Cape Media Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ken Otwenyo indicated that Ramenya took over the role of Head of Digital Innovations and will double as Managing Digital Editor.

In the welcome message, Otwenyo praised the new hire's prowess in growing digital audiences with a successful run at Tuko Media.

“Cape Media is pleased to announce the appointment of Gibendi Ramenya as Head of Digital Innovations effective May 2, 2023.

“He also takes up the role of Managing Editor Digital. He will be in charge of quality control and growing audience for our online assets,” the statement read in part.

The journalist, who amassed 10 years of experience in the media industry, was also tasked with championing the use of digital technology in the newsroom.

“He will champion the use of digital technology and practices in newsroom operations and journalism.

“Ramenya will spearhead the Group’s Digital Transformation and Product Innovations in line with changing audience preferences,” the statement added.

In a statement, Ramenya shared his excitement about taking over the new position.

“Your most important shot is the next one. Excited to be joining Cape Media to take charge of this important role,” Ramenya celebrated.

Before his appointment, Ramenya was the Editor-in-Chief at Tuko Media and rose through the ranks to become its Managing Director (MD).

Aside from his roles at TV47, Ramenya also serves as the Secretary General of the Digital Publishers Association of Kenya (DPAK).

He holds a degree in journalism and mass communication from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and a diploma in Public Relations Management from Kenya Institute of Management.

Earlier on Sunday, May 1, Julia Majale assumed the role of Managing Director (MD) at Tuko Media taking over from Ramenya as the digital media house changed its leadership structure.
