Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege on Thursday, May 4, explained why former President Uhuru Kenyatta was easily overthrown as Jubilee Party leader.

According to the MP who spoke to Inooro TV, Uhuru had failed to show leadership in the Jubilee party forcing disgruntled members to convene a meeting and change the party heads.

"Uhuru did not come to give us direction as Raila did to his team. Kioni would often make the address and since he was not part of parliament, he repeated what Raila and Kalonzo stated. So there was a gap," she explained.

"We tried to reach out to him through text and phone calls to tell him what was ailing the party but he did not respond. We became a party without a leader," Sabina added.

Sabina noted that the replacement began with Jeremiah Kioni (Secretary General), David Murathe (chairperson), and Kagwe Gichohi (Treasurer) after a meeting with a section of Jubilee members.

The MP disclosed that they were shortchanged in the selection of parliamentary leadership, adding that Jubilee ought to have been given the Deputy Minority leader position.

Additionally, she referenced instances in parliament when Uhuru as the party leader was silent when the party needed him.

Sabina highlighted the election of EALA MPs when several Jubilee party members were selected including Jeremiah Kioni and Kanini Kega.

Furthermore, the former Murang'a Women Representative noted that she was not afraid of losing her seat as she was nominated under the Jubilee Party. She also downplayed the role Uhuru played to secure her a seat.

"We would still have secured our seats without Uhuru. Without him, we still have Jubilee," she stated.

Sabina also dismissed that she was 'bought' by the Kenya Kwanza Alliance adding that 'We want Jubilee to be addressed as an independent party."

According to Sabina ever since Uhuru took leadership of the Jubilee party and The National Alliance (TNA) party, he had never signed a letter and the recent communication from the party came as a shock.

On his part, EALA MP Kanini Kega emphasised that Uhuru was not ousted as party leader but six months passed after he left office as president.

He was also appalled by Uhuru's meeting with members of the Bunge la Wananchi when he went to Jubilee headquarters in Kileleshwa, Nairobi County on April 26.

Sabina further argued that she was locked out of the offices and had to address the press far away to avoid being tackled by some of the protesters.

"Kanini and I are holding the positions in acting capacities before we have a meeting with other members," she concluded urging Uhuru not to participate in protests and support the government.
