Schools across the country began to reopen on Monday, May 8 for the second of the current academic calendar after a two-week break.
Candidates in Grade 6, class 8 and form 4 are racing against time with national exams set for later in the year.
According to the Ministry of guidelines, second term for pre-primary, primary schools, Junior Secondary and secondary schools, runs from May, 8 to August 11, 2023.
Term two was the longest with 14 weeks duration as compared to first and third terms which have 13 weeks and 9 weeks respectively.
Learners will break for a 3-days half term as from June 29 to July 2, 2023.
Schools will close for the August holidays for 2 weeks from August 12, to August 27.
According to the circular from the Ministry, schools will reopen for term three on August 28 and the term will run for 9 weeks.
There will be three major national exams in third term, that is Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate Secondary Education (KCSE).
Registration of candidates for the 2023 KCPE, KPSEA, and KCSE examinations started on February 1, and the deadline was March 20.
The registration for the national examinations was done electronically through the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) portal www.knec-portal.ac.ke where candidates’ details were uploaded using specific passwords for each examination centre.
KCPE national exams for class eight pupils and KPSEA for grade six learners will start on October 30 up to November 2.
On the other hand, KCSE examination was scheduled to start on November 3, and will run for three weeks up to November 24.
Marking of KCSE exams was scheduled to run for three weeks as from November 27, to December 15, 2023.
