Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, who is the main suspect in the death of businesswoman Monica Kimani on Thursday, May 11, told the court how a gun he had went off while in a heated argument with former TV anchor Jacque Maribe.

According to Jowie, an argument over text messages on Maribe's mobile phone spiraled into an ugly event that led to a gunshot.

While appearing before Lady Justice Grace Nzioka at the Milimani Law Courts, Jowie stated that on the fateful night, his girlfriend Jacque Maribe had become irritable but cooperative despite his agitation.

On inquiring further about the text, Jacque chose a fallout that led to him getting aggressively agitated while still intoxicated.

"We had an argument again about a message I saw on her phone and we threw words at each other.

"I got tired and I was throwing my clothes outside, I wanted to leave the house because the same message was repetitive and I was intoxicated and angry I didn't want to listen to her at all, whatever I had seen," Jowie told the Court.

Jowie claimed that the gun which was together with clothes went off as he was trying to throw out some of the stuff.

As a result, a bullet struck him in the chest, causing serious injuries to him and massive blood loss from the wound.

"So when I was moving my clothes the gun went out and hit me on the chest so I went to my neighbor Brian," Jowie added.

He admitted to giving police officers a contradictory account of his bullet wound because of fear that he would be in trouble since the said gun did not belong to him.

According to Irungu, the gun was owned by a man simply identified as Brian, who brought him the firearm because he was having quarrels with his wife.

"Brian gave me a narrative that I say thugs attacked me because Brian had acquired the gun illegally and he said if we told the truth he will be in trouble," he added.

The suspect, Jowie, was later taken to the hospital where he received medical attention for his bullet wound.

"They took me to a hospital in Lang'ata but they were not ready for us so they took me to Nairobi hospital.

"Brian later dropped us at our house and in the morning I didn't wake up early, Jacque's mum came around 11 am.  I greeted her and went back to bed," Jowi stated.
