Lawrence Njuguna, alias DJ Fatxo was on Wednesday, May 17, acquitted of murder charges in Jeff Mwathi's death probe.

In a four-page statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke and written by his lawyer, Duncan Okatch, the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) agreed with the recommendations from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that there is no evidence linking him to Mwathi's death.

He added that the ODPP recommended that the matter pursues the route of an inquest - a formal process to give closure to the probe.

"It is clear that there is no single shred or iota of evidence to suggest any remote criminal culpability by our client or suspicion thereof.

"In fact, it is very clear that our client was not even at his house at the material time that his friend, Jeff MWathi met his death," the statement read in part.

DJ Fatxo thanked the DCI for exonerating him -  terming that they exhibited great standards of professionalism, independence and focus despite the public perception.

"Our client is happy that the truthful position he has always espoused and maintained with regard to his innocence has come out at last.

"He is very thankful to the DCI and ODPP for exhibiting great standards of professionalism, independence and focus despite the clearly orchestrated public and social media machinations to obfuscate the truth and propagate extremely damaging outright defamatory lies and versions with the sole aim of besmirching and injuring our client and his reputation with a consequential heavy detrimental effect," the statement read in part.

The lawyer affirmed that DJ Fatxo had consciously forgiven all those who propagated the false information and constituted cyberbullying.

He noted that the delay injured his reputation and well-being. However, the DJ affirmed that he would resume his normal life in the music industry.

"Our client will now resume his normal life and do what he does best which is ensuring people shake their legs and he hopes that this challenge that has been surmounted will impact positively on any person who may find himself already judged even before his side of the story in heard," the lawyer stated.

DJ Fatxo had initially written to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) requesting the release of the probe's findings into Jeff Mwathi's death.
