Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria on Saturday, June 24, promised to secure land from Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza to support businesses in the county.

In a statement, the CS stated that he arrived at the decision after a plea from the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) leaders.

He stated that the land will be used for the construction of a Special Economic Zone in the region.

The church leaders from Meru led by their Archbishop Samson Muthuri, paid a visit to the Cabinet Secretary at his private residence.

“I will be reaching out to the Meru governor (Kawira Mwangaza) for additional land to have another Special Economic Zone in the region as requested by the Bishops.

“I was honoured to receive blessings from the Meru AIPCA Bishops led by Archbishop Muthuri at my private residence,” he stated.

Kuria added that the Kenya Kwanza Government was a product of the church stating that the leaders would continue consulting with the church on ways to improve the lives of Kenyans.

“The Bishops urged me to continue uniting our people, more so our leadership, so that they can deliver on all the promises we made to Kenyans.

"The Kenya Kwanza Government is a product of the church and we shall at all times keep consulting with the church on how best to uplift the lives of Kenyans,” added Kuria.

Special Economic Zones project aims to establish technology hubs targeting zero carbon levels projects to stimulate entrepreneurship and drive investments in the country by providing tax benefits, quality administrative services and a comfortable living environment.

After his visit to the Incheon Free Economic Zone in Seoul in South Korea, President William Ruto selected Dongo Kundu, Lamu, Naivasha, Athi River and Sagana towns to host five smart cities.

In January 2023, the government called on Kenyans to take the opportunity of the investment opportunities at the SEZ across the country.

Further, the Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) stated that the government would offer incentives to investors willing to put up establishments in Special Economic Zones in Naivasha.

"The Kenyan Government has set up public SEZS that include 3.000 acres in Dongo Kundu and 1.000 acres in Naivasha, where investors can acquire long-term leases. Kenya will provide a stable economy, and wider market access through its economic and trade cooperation," a statement from the authority read in part.
