Ruto Offers Scholarships & Fee Waiver for Comoros Students

President William Ruto, on Thursday, July 6, offered 100 scholarship opportunities for Comoros students seeking to extend their studies in Kenya. 

In a communique sent to the newsrooms following the Heads of State's engagement with his counterpart, Azali Assoumani, Ruto also extended a fee waiver to the students from the country located off the coast of East Africa.

In light of the recent announcement, students from Comoros who choose to pursue their studies in Kenya will now be subjected to the same tuition fees as their Kenyan counterparts

"President Ruto further offered the government of the Union of the Comoros 100 scholarships and indicated that henceforth Comorian Students in Kenya will pay the same school fees as the Kenyan students," read the communique in part.

Despite the announcement, specific information regarding the value of the scholarships was not publicised.

Ruto's commitments were part of the agreements reached during his official visit to Comoros, which commenced on Wednesday, July 6.

On the other hand, the two Presidents announced visa-free travel for both their citizens to promote bilateral cooperation for both countries.

"The two Heads of State reaffirmed their commitment to continue developing bilateral cooperation through the signing of the General Cooperation Agreement, which establishes a Joint Commission for Cooperation.

"It (the framework) will establish structured cooperation in areas such as Trade and Investment, Transport, Education, Tourism, Agriculture, Blue Economy and Maritime Security to meet the aspired social–economic growth and Africa Union’s Agenda 2063," read the statement in part.

Ruto was also decorated with a Presidential award, the Grand Cross of the Green Crescent of Comoros, by Assoumani in recognition for championing collaboration between the two countries.

Further, as part of strengthening ties, he extended an invitation to Comoros to join the East African Community (EAC).

Ruto is expected to fly to the Republic of Congo on Friday, July 7.
