Two suspected terrorists were arrested in Garissa County, on Wednesday, July 12, after police officers, who were on patrol, walked in on them at a construction site. 

In the report, which was shared on Saturday, July 14, the police were said to have acted on complaints filed by members of the public at Iftin Police Station. 

Police who were heading to a workstation to release their colleagues on duty saw the two alighting from a white Toyota Probox. 

Reports alleged that the officers confronted the duo, who were armed AK 47 Rifles, and subsequently arrested them.

However, it was yet to be clear whether a shootout ensued between the officers and the suspected terrorists or if the latter surrendered. 

The police, nonetheless, found Ksh390,000 in cash and over 150 rounds of ammunition in the car. The ammunition and the guns were seized for ballistic examination. 

A green military belt, a Samsung Galaxy phone, four leather magazine pouches, and two small leather pouches were also recovered. 

An investigation into the case commenced after the suspects were placed in custody and the recovered items were recorded as exhibits. 

The Toyota Probox registered as KDL **** belonging to one of the suspects was also detained at the station yard pending further processing.  

Police also managed to identify the two men of Somali descent. According to the detectives, the suspects identified as DT and OY were aged 41 years and 40 years respectively. 

It was alleged that the two suspects were behind the murder of a young boy in Garissa. A woman and a man were also reportedly injured in the incident that occurred at Kunaso estate. 

Residents lauded the police for apprehending the duo who were accused of wreaking havoc in the county.
