A heartbroken father filed a petition at Thika Law Courts after his wife sold their one-year-old son for Ksh20,000 in Nairobi.

The man noted that he left for work in the morning on the day but when he returned, his wife was not around. He later received a call that the baby was in the hospital.

He, however, dismissed the claims since the child had been healthy the previous day but the wife spent the entire night at the hospital and returned home empty-handed the next day.

When questioned on the whereabouts of the baby, the wife claimed that their son had died while receiving treatment at the hospital and his body was taken to the morgue.

Shocked and overwhelmed by the news, he demanded to know how the baby died and what was ailing him.

"She told me that the baby died at the hospital but I was in doubt. At the time, I was told she was seen in Nairobi but she denied the allegations," he narrated.

The duo went to the hospital where the baby's body was reportedly being held but were told that his name was not on the records.

After several back and forths with the hospital and the alleged doctor who took the body that lasted for two days, the man learned that his wife was lying.

He was informed by the watchman that his wife knew where the baby was being held and that he was alive and healthy.

"The watchman told me that his wife wanted him to steal another baby at the hospital but he refused," the husband revealed.

He emphasised that the duo had not had any arguments to force her to take such drastic actions but revealed that the wife had refused to breastfeed their son.

The buyers reportedly paid her Ksh20,000 for the baby. The buyers were also planning to pay an additional Ksh9,000 to get the baby's documentation. The transaction took place in Pangani.

Cases of babies being sold have been on the rise in public hospitals. In 2022, a hospital in Kisumu was exposed for selling newborn babies for as high as Ksh1 million.
