United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has ousted Godfrey Waiyaki, the Juja Kalimoni ward MCA from his role as the Leader of the Majority in the Kiambu County Assembly.

Cleophas Malala, United Democratic Alliance Secretary-General, in a statement issued on Friday, August 11, revealed that the members of the UDA party in the County Assembly, who enjoy the majority share, had voted to oust Waiyaki over accusations of gross misconduct in office.

Over 45 members out of 60 approved the motion to impeach the majority leader, accusing Waiyaki of not forwarding their concerns to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

The signatures passed the threshold of Standing Order of the county government which requires a total of 37 votes.

According to Malala, Limuru East MCA Paul Macharia will take over the role of majority leader.

During a press briefing outside the County Assembly Offices on Friday, August 11, the MCAs noted that the members had lost confidence in Waiyaki's leadership.

“We do not want a leader who is a troublemaker and we have no problem with our governor. We will continue to support him moving forward,” one of the MCAs remarked.

The newly elected majority leader Paul Macharia expressed confidence in his ability to steer the county assembly and voice their concerns to the county government.

He also promised to include more women and people with disability in the operations of the county.

“I will be telling the governor what the leaders want and in the manner they want the message told. I will not embellish anything - I will tell him things straight on,” the new majority leader noted.

Barely three months after taking office, governor Wamatangi found himself at loggerheads with the members of county assembly who did not support his leadership.

The MCAs claimed that the bursary committees were being formed at the ward level without their involvement. They also accused the governor of not honouring their invitation to discuss the welfare of the county.

Responding to the claims, Wamatangi claimed that the MCAs were impatient with his administration and vowed that he would work without fear.

This led to a series of conflict with the MCAs rejecting half of Wamatangi's Cabinet nominees in November 2022.

Two months later, the governor resolved to work together with the MCAs and consult whenever the need arose.
