Mombasa-based Chef Maliha Mohammed is less than 24 hours away from getting global glory by setting a Guinness World Record for the longest home kitchen cooking marathon.

The Chef started her cooking marathon on Friday, August 11 and by yesterday night she had already clocked 68 hours and 30 minutes.

Maliha is aiming to replace American Rickey Lumpkin of California, who cooked for 68 hours, 30 minutes, and 1 second in December 2018.

The now celebrity chef is trying her second stab at world glory after cooking for 75 hours nonstop in 2019 for the individual title of Longest Cooking Marathon.

Maliha has majored in preparing Swahili cuisine in her marathon.

Some of the dishes she is preparing for the competition include biryani (beef and chicken), Bhajia and Chicken Masala.

Apart from celebrating Swahili culture, the chef announced that she would also try a hand at international cuisines including the famed Nigerian jolof rice.

In preparation for the main event, Maliha cooked for 55 hours non-stop in June.

She had at the time made her frustrations known as many corporates in Kenya did not show interest in supporting her cooking marathon.

The event is now being spearheaded by Empowering African Woman and the food being cooked will be distributed to various needy groups in Mombasa County.

After the Guinness World Record confirms her win, she has revealed that she will now seek to challenge for the title of individual longest cooking marathon.

The title is currently held by Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci after she cooked for 93 hours non-stop.

Maliha will challenge Baci’s title in November. She aims to be among a few individuals who hold two Guinness World Records.
