The Amani National Congress (ANC) founded by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadion Thursday refuted claims that it would dissolve to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a statement endorsed by ANC, Kakamega County Minority Leader David Ndakwa explained that there was no agreement in place to join President William Ruto’s UDA.
“We will not dissolve ANC. Kenya Kwanza is a coalition of parties not a single party like Azimio,” Ndakwa stated.
According to ANC, the outfit is important to Mudavadi as it gives him bargaining power in the government.
Ndakwa explained that is how Mudavadi got a seat in government in 2022 and will get again in 2027.
“The goal is to support William Ruto until 2032 but to do that we need the village parties for bargaining,” he explained why Mudavadi could not fold his party.
According to ANC, Musalia joining UDA will significantly reduce his voice heading to the 2027 general election.
Even after the 2027 general election, Ndakwa explained that Mudavadi will still hold on to his party.
The reasoning is that President William Ruto will leave the field open for his successor and having a party will give Mudavadi an edge.
UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has been calling for the dissolving of all member parties of Kenya Kwanza to join UDA so as to make it a political powerhouse.
While touring Kakamega on September 4, Malala asked Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula to stop holding onto their parties.
“The only way Luhyas will get to the top is by joining a national party. I want to urge the Luhya community to join the ruling national party which is UDA,” he stated then.
Malala went ahead to throw an apparent jibe at the ANC by remarking that the outfit was a village party as all its leaders came within one location.
Before joining UDA as Secretary General, Malala was a close ally to Musalia Mudavadi and served as Kakamega Senator under the ANC ticket.
He was subsequently given a direct ticket by the ANC to vie for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat in 2022 but lost to Fernandes Barasa of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In February 2023, Ruto appointed him as SG for the ruling party where he was tasked with making UDA the largest party in the country.
