Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Wednesday announced a major shakeup in her cabinet.
The changes, which will take effect immediately, have seen several County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and a number of chief officers take up new roles.
Nathaniel Nganga, formerly the CEC for Roads, Transport, and Public Works, has been reassigned to the Lands portfolio, while Joyce Mwikali, previously heading the Education department, will now serve as the CEC overseeing Devolution.
Philip Kilonzo, the former Lands CEC, will transition to the Education docket.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti reshuffled Consolata Mutisya from the Devolution docket to the Roads, Transport, and Public Works Department.
“I have taken the decision to reorganize the leadership of my government in order to achieve better efficiency in the delivery of services to the residents of Machakos,” Wavinya declared at a surprise press conference convened at Matuu County Lodge in Yatta Sub County.
Governor Ndeti further noted that the cabinet changes were aimed at putting the right people in the right positions in a bid to deliver her development dubbed Chakula Mezani Pesa Mfukoni Philosophy.
In a surprise move, Governor Wavinya redeployed her Chief Officer, Mercy Ndululu Mutua, to head County Administration and Decentralized Units, with Charles Mutinda, formerly the Chief Officer for Education, taking her place.
''We understand that this transition may raise questions and concerns among the public, but rest assured that I have carefully considered all aspects to ensure a smooth transition and remain committed to serving you with utmost dedication and transparency,'' Governor Wavinya said.
Antony Mutunga, who previously oversaw the Lands Department, will now serve as Chief Officer for Cooperative Development within the Department of Agriculture.
Vincent Musili, formerly heading the Tourism Department, will assume the role of Chief Officer for Agriculture and Food Security.
Simultaneously, Muiya Andrew Muema will transition from his position as Chief Officer for Environment within the Department of Agriculture to the same role in the Environment Department.
