Kenyan billionaire Julius Mwale has secured a deal to expand the Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC) to Ghana.
The announcement was made by Mwale's communication team after the US-based tycoon met with President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
As per the statement, the cities will replicate the Mwale city in Butere, Kakamega County with a key focus on healthcare, agrotech, and renewable energy.
Mwale is behind Butere city which is valued at about Ksh200 billion.
MMTC added that it also reached various partnership agreements with various companies for their programmes.
“Many of the other events attended by our teams included the Africa business forum, global Africa business initiative, invest Africa, Milken Institute, Forbes 400 philanthropy, United Bank of Africa and many others where MMTC's team made a significant impact and struck many partnerships for investment and social impact programs,” read the statement in part.
MMTC plans to have 18 cities in 12 African countries by 2050 with Ghana being the latest investment country.
The announcement also comes after Mwale got approval to expand the city's Hamptons Hospital to Botswana in April.
"Mwale also secured a deal in July to expand to the Republic of Congo where the new Mwale City in the Brazaville-Kinshasa metro area will be anchored by Hamptons Hospital and is expected to enhance universal healthcare and medical tourism in Central Africa," MMTC added.
On the other hand, the billionaire also met with President William Ruto where they discussed various programmes aimed at creating job opportunities for the youth.
Progress and completion of the Ksh200 billion investment also took centre stage at the Ruto meeting.
Currently, the Hamptons Hospital which is complete offers treatments to Kakamega County National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) patients.
