On Wednesday night, President William Ruto made major changes in his government reshuffling cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries and ambassadors.
Of note, however, Ruto also appointed former Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura as the Government Spokesperson to be deputised by Gabriel Muthuma and Mwanaisha Chidzuga.
In her new role, Chidzuga, a TV47 Swahili News anchor, will be tasked with providing assistance to Isaac Mwaura in communicating government policies and initiatives to the public through various media channels among other duties.
Her rise to the top has, however, not been an easy ride.
Born and bred in Kwale County, the outspoken news anchor attended Ziwani Primary School before transitioning to Kenya High School, becoming the first girl in the area to attend a national school. She later graduated with a degree in public relations from Moi University.
Her media career kicked off at Pwani FM where she admitted that she landed her first on-air job as a news presenter and DJ by chance. At the time, she had accompanied a friend to the audition but ended up bagging the job.
She later moved to KBC before cementing her TV profile at the Kenya Television Network as a presenter.
In 2015, however, the station handed Chidzuga a firing letter just minutes before she was scheduled to host a new show, Maisha na Isha. She then held stints at other stations including the BBC.
Later in 2015, Chidzuga joined K24 TV where she anchored the Swahili News bulletin alongside colleague Ahmed Bhalo. In 2019, the hammer fell on her, and was let go in a redundancy drive at the Mediamax-owned company.
At the time, she told Kenyans.co.ke that she intended to concentrate on her other ventures alongside a new YouTube show that she started.
"For me, K24 TV was part-time. I am a full-time caterer and I own three restaurants. K24 was a hobby and I used to work like 12 hours the whole month," Chidzuga told this writer at the time.
"For me. That was a side hustle, I have my main hustle. Right now, I have three restaurants to run, that is where my focus is and I am opening a new one soon, before the end of the year."
In September 2021, she threw her hat into the political ring and joined the race for the Matuga Parliamentary seat under her mother's inspiration.
After losing the election, Mwanaisha landed a gig at TV47 Radio to host the Mchikicho show from 10 am to 1 pm.
