Mount Kenya University has suspended one of its students for sharing an expletive-ridden video on TikTok dismissing the importance of higher education and insulting lecturers.
In the video, the student identified as Job Onyango questioned the overall importance of education in making someone wealthy, claiming that he was only pursuing university education to please his parents.
"This is an exam paper, so tell me how is this going to make you rich? Okay, you have defined data collection, good, I know you define terms well, now tell me how is it going to make you rich," Onyango could be heard saying in the video.
In the clip, the student could be seen pointing at vehicles behind him, ostensibly owned by lecturers, which he quantified as evidence of failing to make it in life.
Consequently, the university has resolved to suspend the student for the semester running between September- December 2023.
The student will be expected to report back to school in January 2024.
Mount Kenya University further served a final warning to the student, warning that it will not hesitate to expel him in the future if he commits a similar offense.
"The University Disciplinary Committee has summoned you to answer to the charge of inciting fellow students and other members of the community to commit offenses," the statement read.
Responding to his suspension in a separate video, the student questioned why the school had suspended him saying the last thing he wanted to do was pile pressure on his parents.
In the video, he claimed that his parents were aware of his suspension, revealing that his father had asked him to send him a soft copy of the letter.
He also denied inciting other students to commit offenses as captured in the suspension letter.
Onyango, who has a huge following on TikTok, 30,800 by the time of publishing this article, is widely popular and regularly shares controversial videos on his platform under the username @jobnyakach. He is also popularly known as Escape The Matrix.
For instance, in another video, he dismissed other university students advising him to go slow on his antics warning that he risked being expelled and ruining his future.
"There are some university students warning me about my recent activity. Let me tell you, are you happy with the life you are living? Okay, you will graduate, after graduation, where will you go?" he posed.
