Two police officers on patrol were recorded engaging in a physical confrontation with a trader who defied arrest near Marikiti market in Nairobi.

In a video circulating online, the officers clutched the trader's bag, insisting that he should follow them to the station.

He, however, defied the orders and demanded to know the reason for his arrest.

His question irritated the officers, who ordered the trader to heed their instructions. Nearby onlookers gathered around the scene and pressured the officers to release the man.

"What have I done?" the man wondered.

After a back and forth with the trader, the officers made calls to unidentified individuals, with the public questioning whether they were in contact with higher powers or were calling for backup.

A lady who was recording the video claimed that she was accompanying the trader to the Marikiti market before the officers ambushed them.

Irate at the lady for recording the video, one of the officers knocked down the phone, an action which drew the ire of the public.

"You cannot continue treating us like this," the arrested man confronted the police while hurling obscenities.

"We will not do our operations the way you want," one of the officers broke the silence and responded as he continued to clutch the man's t-shirt.

The police further declined to let go of the man, who was struggling to be set free.
