Four Kisumu Boys Secondary School candidates were arrested on Monday evening while allegedly smoking marijuana.
Police accused the four candidates of forcefully busting into a room using a master key before converging in a corner to smoke.
Three of the candidates, aged 18 and one, aged 17, were temporarily held at Kisumu Central Police Station, where they recorded a statement before they were released.
Kisumu Central sub-county police commander Peter Mulai confirmed the incident, stating that they released the students on cash bail after the intervention of parents and teachers.
Mulai added that the parents and teachers agreed to allow the students to sit the remaining exams prior to the investigations into the case commencing.
The four suspects will be arraigned in court after exams end on November 24. Police stated that the duo would be charged with possession of illegal drugs and breaking into a locked room.
The four candidates join a list of 46 other students who are yet to be charged after the examination period ends.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu promised to ensure several students and teachers accused of exam malpractices are charged.
The accused teachers were released on cash bail, while nine examination centre managers were suspended.
Nyambaria High School Principal Charles Onyari was among the centre managers dismissed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over exam irregularities. The school topped the 2022 KCSE examination with a 10.89 mean score.
Machogu is expected to release KCSE results early next year.
