Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir on Wednesday deployed response teams after a wall collapsed at Coast Girls High School which affected the administration of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
In a statement, the Governor confirmed that the county fire and rescue team had already been deployed to the scene to institute safety measures and ensure the safety of the remaining structures.
The Governor also revealed that no casualties had been reported.
"I urge parents to remain calm as our engineers work to give a report on the way forward," the Governor said in a statement.
Governor Nassir himself visited the scene to check on the students and assess the response status.
The County Chief was accompanied by some CECs including; Dan Manyala (Transport & Infrastructure), Ken Ambani (Public Service Administration), and Dr. Abuyaasir Mbwarali (Education).
Mvita MP Mohamed Machale also accompanied Governor Nassir to the scene.
This comes at a time when form four students are sitting for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
The exams are scheduled to end on November 24, 2023.
What's more, this comes even as Mombasa County continues to experience heavy rainfall which has affected activities in the Coastal county.
One week ago, 1 student was reported dead after heavy rains pounded the region moments after she finished writing her exams for the day.
The 19-year-old candidate studying at Kajembe High School in Msambweni was electrocuted on her way home on the evening of Friday, November 17, 2023.
As reported to the police, the student had been forced to take narrow paths that were filled with stormwater due to the ongoing floods.
Witnesses said that the student accidentally stepped on a section with hanging electric wires when she was fatally electrocuted.
