Update: Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has confirmed that the issue preventing the public from accessing KCPE 2023 results has been resolved.

KNEC attributed the issue to a technical hitch with the SMS code.

"We encountered a technical hitch with the SMS code, but this has been resolved. You can now access the 2023 KCPE results by sending the candidate's index number to 40054. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you."

Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has apologised for the delay in accessing the just released KCPE results following uproar from parents.

In a statement, the Council noted that the technical team was working on solving the issue and would update the members of the public once the shortcode is accessible.

Candidates were advised to access their results by sending their index number to 40054.

"Greetings, we apologize for the delay in accessing KCPE 2023 results. We will update you once they are available on 40054," the statement read in part.

Kenyans online lamented that they could not access the KCPE results an hour after Education CS Ezekiel Machogu released the exams.

According to parents, this created anxiety among the parents, teachers and students who had to patiently wait for the results.

Some lamented that they had to send the message multiple times, incurring a Ksh25 fee per SMS.

They urged the Ministry to be considerate when releasing national examinations in the future.

"It has created anxiety for everyone including teachers, the parents. I would just request the Ministry to release what is ready, in the next national examinations," one of the parents told the media.

"You see if you keep sending then you're charged Ksh25 every time. Next time, they should be considerable."

A spot-check by Kenyans.co.ke showed a response after sending the text through 40054; Dear customer, the KCPE 2023 results are not available. Kindly try again later after the announcement."

Several students were, however, able to access their results through KNEC's official website.

Following complaints about the charges incurred every time they sent a message, the mobile service provider clarified that users would be charged upon receiving the results.

"You will only be charged upon receiving the results. Our since apologies for the inconvenience," the statement read in part.
