Kenya Power on Tuesday confirmed that its customers were facing difficulties in buying tokens.

KPLC admitted to the glitches after Kenyans who attempted to purchase tokens complained of receiving an error message from the service provider.

"Transaction failed, we cannot complete payment to KPLC PREPAID. The Organization's system receiving the payment experienced some technical challenges, try again later," read part of the message.

In response, Kenya Power revealed that there was a hitch in the purchasing of prepaid tokens

The company, furthermore, assured that it was working to resolve the matter as soon as possible while apologising for the inconvenience.

"The system has slowed down, our team is working to normalize the situation. We shall avail the token when it comes through," the company stated.

However, Kenya Power did not reveal what caused the glitch in the system.

Additionally, Kenyans who tried to purchase prepaid tokens through the bank and USSD code faced similar challenges.

According to some of the complaints, the issue began at 6 am and was yet to be resolved. They also complained about the high cost of electricity in the country.

In September, Kenya Power temporarily shut down its prepaid vending system to undertake scheduled maintenance.

"Our prepaid vending system will be temporarily unavailable due to essential maintenance from Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11:50 pm to Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 5:00 am," KPLC stated.

Notably, in November, electricity prices dropped in the country by 1 per cent for 200 Kilowatts and 1.2 per cent for 50 kilowatts compared to October.
