Police officers have cordoned off Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza's official residence in Milimani Estate, Meru town.

A source privy to the matter revealed to Kenyans.co.ke that the detectives arrived at Mwangaza's residence at 1:00 pm in Landrovers, Double cabins, and Subarus.

Moments later, they sealed off the entire area with officers from the forensics team conducting examinations around the area.

Further, the detectives denied journalists access who were asked to stay at least 200 metres from the scene.

It is unclear whether the investigations are linked to the murder of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.

The source also did not reveal whether Mwangaza was at her residence at the time of the operation.

The murder of the Meru blogger has gained nationwide attraction with political figures calling for detectives to swiftly arrest the perpetrators.

On Thursday, 5 suspects were arrested in connection with the blogger's murder.

In a court case filed by the investigating officer, the suspects are believed to have lured Sniper promising that they would arrange a meeting with the county chief, ostensibly to bury the hatchet between the 2.

Before his demise, Sniper was a fierce critic of Meru's leadership.

The blogger is said to vanished following a meetup with the suspects in Meru town. Days later, Sniper's body was found at Mutonga River.

In the court document, the investigating officer sought 21 days to carry out further investigations against the suspects.

"The suspects have to undergo formal police procedures which include but are not limited to recording statements, interrogation and subjecting them to mental assessment among other actions," the officer stated in the court document.
