A survivor of the accident that claimed 15 lives on Tuesday at the Twin Bridge area along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway has narrated the last moments before the tragic incident.
While addressing the press, the survivor disclosed the accident occurred when the bus they were travelling in rammed into an oncoming matatu.
According to the man, the collision occurred when the bus driver attempted to overtake another vehicle.
"The driver was attempting to overtake then suddenly we heard a loud bang then immediately the driver told us to evacuate," the man narrated.
According to the survivor, the bus which was coming from Congo en route to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania was in good condition, and even the driver was driving at recommended speed when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“While coming from Congo, through Kampala to Kenya we had a good journey, we were traveling through Kenya to Dar es Salaam, the speed was okay, we were traveling in a bus. We arrived at the Kenya-Uganda border and were cleared without any problem," the survivor noted.
“We arrived here (Mau Summit) and at the time, there was another vehicle in front of us,"
Narrating the ordeal, the survivor noted while most people in the matatu with which they collided died, there were no deaths recorded among occupants travelling in the bus though most emerged with minor injuries.
“The driver was the first to come out then I followed. I then saw him converging with other bus crew before they walked away," the survivor denoted.
Following the tragic accident, officers from Mau Summit Police Station were deployed to cordon off the area even as investigations into the matter commenced.
According to a report by the National Police Service, the bus involved in the accident belonged to a Congolese public transport operator while the 14-seater matatu belonged to a Kenyan transport company.
"The injured were rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital," NPS noted in a statement.
