Former UK MP Alex Phillips has complained about the increased crime rate in London, comparing it to the situation in Nairobi, where she once lived.
Speaking to international publications, Phillips explained that when she lived in Nairobi, insecurity was through the roof, warning that London was heading there.
The politician was irate after she became the latest victim of a mugging incident on the streets of London in broad daylight.
She claimed that the perpetrator was aged 14- 15 years and attacked her from behind on a bike before speeding off in a matter of seconds.
"London is in danger of becoming as lawless as Nairobi. Since I talked about the mugging, so many people have contacted me to say the same thing happened to them," she explained.
"Just on anecdotal evidence phone theft is rampant on Oxford Street. I have heard from many people who have experienced the same thing in London."
The politician warned that the security situation in London was deteriorating and the city was running the risk of what she described as sinking to Nairobi's level.
"It is not acceptable. I lived in Nairobi in Kenya for a time and that place was known as 'Nai Robbery' because there was so much crime there," she added.
"In Nairobi, you did not walk down the street at night, and you did not talk on your phone. London is not as bad as Nairobi yet, but it is getting so much worse. It is grim," she pointed out.
Phillips served as a member of the European Parliament from 2019 to 2020 under the Reform UK party, previously known as the Brexit Party.
At the time, she was contracted by SGL Group, the parent company of Cambridge Analytica, to conduct a research project, which is said to have played a dominant role in former President Uhuru Kenyatta's election campaign bids in 2013 and 2017.
After 2020, Phillips ventured into media and is currently a news anchor at one of the UK's news channels, TalkTV.
