The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wants police to summon South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro over skirmishes that were witnessed in Kisii Governor Simba Arati's bursary event early in the week.
Led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, ODM lawmakers pressured Inspector General Japhet Koome to summon the MP for grilling within the next 14 days.
Further, Sifuna demanded the IG transfer the Kisii County Commander who was accused of colluding with Osoro to allegedly attack the governor.
The party SG maintained that the governor's life was still in danger, adding that all officers involved in the shooting needed to be removed from the police service.
"We take note of the loud silence of the CS in charge of national security and the inspector general of police.
"It is this silence, coupled with the fact that no action has been taken against the goons in police uniforms that leads us to the conclusion this is state-sponsored violence approved at the highest level of the security command," Sifuna stated.
Should the IG fail to act on their ultimatums, Sifuna added that the party would take matters into their own hands.
However, the party did not specify the next course of action, insisting that the move would come as a surprise.
"All these must happen within the next 14 days failing which the Party will pursue other avenues to ensure law and order in Kisii.
"In the meantime wish to state that should any harm come to the party's national chairperson as a result of any subsequent attack against him, the persons named here including Hon Osoro and the IG of Police will be held personally responsible," Sifuna concluded.
The ODM party was referring to Arati's bursary meeting that was disrupted by Osoro and his aides on January 8.
During the incident that was marred with gunshots, four people were hospitalised with scores nursing minor injuries. Osoro and Arati accused each other of sparking the violence which caused jitters in both the government and opposition camps.
