The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS)  has exposed a company claiming to have partnered with the agency in conducting paid surveys to participants.

In a statement released on January 16, the agency distanced itself from the job notice, urging Kenyans to stay vigilant and aware of conmen.

“BEWARE OF CONMEN! Kenya National Bureau of Statistics warns the public of the contents of the poster below circulating on various media platforms,”

The company, Lakeside City Scholars Association, which was accused of obtaining crucial private information as part of the application process, advertised job opportunities for Kenyan Citizens. The applicants were to conduct the surveys in select Nyanza regions.

“KNBS has no association whatsoever with the Lakeside City Scholars Association. Anyone engaging with them does so at their own risk,” the agency warned.

The fake scammer notice listed several qualifications and requirements, requesting interested candidates to send their details before January 16.

“We have been approached by the Kenya Bureau of Standards for a survey starting next Monday."

“Selected participants earn Ksh3,000 per day and Ksh300 for lunch,” the scammer notice reads.

Among the requirements listed were a National Identification Card (ID), sub-county name, ward name, email address and phone number.

Notable areas with available vacancies were Kisumu East, Kisumu West, Seme, Muhoroni, Nyando, and Nyakach.

KNBS has also requested members approached by or conned by the company to report the matter to the relevant authority.

“Members of the public are urged to promptly report individuals from the group to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Kenya or the Kenya Police for necessary action,” KNBS added.
