A mother from Kisii County is crying for justice for her two-and-a-half-year-old son who died at a local hospital after the doctor allegedly administered a drug overdose.
The mother was seen crying during an interview while narrating her ordeal. She revealed that her child had a condition where he would collapse unexpectedly.
This occurred after every few days when he would be given medicine to regain consciousness.
On the day in question, the child was taken to Keumbu Sub-County Hospital for treatment. The doctor at the local hospital asked for Ksh300 to administer the drug without enquiring about the dose.
She revealed that the drugs administered were from Kenyatta National Hospital.
"I quickly agreed to pay the amount as long as my child gets well. He assured me that after eight months the problem would be gone. He injected the child without even looking at how the dose is supposed to be administered," she told journalists.
According to the child's mother, after the doctor administered the dose, her son lost consciousness. The doctor thereafter sent her to town for further analysis.
When she arrived at another hospital in town, she was informed that the child had already passed away.
"Help me, that doctor has killed my child. My child was walking and talking, He slept and stopped breathing after that injection," the mother stated amidst tears.
Kenyans.co.ke reached out to the said hospital, however, an employee at the hospital declined to respond to the matter.
Kenyans called upon the Ministry of Health and the Cabinet Secretary, Susan Nakhumicha to intervene to prevent more loss of life. The CS was asked to investigate the qualifications of the employees at the hospital.
The young boy's case is among the many other Kenyans who have lost their lives due to reported medical negligence.
In September 2023, the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) announced a nationwide crackdown on quack doctors and nurses.
