A middle-aged man was on Thursday, January 8 stabbed to death in the Kaplemeiwet area of Kipkoiyan, in Kericho county while trying to save his mother-in-law from a fight.

The fight ensued after two women started quarrelling over a suspected love triangle, with one claiming the other was trying to steal a man, who allegedly has sexual relations with both.

According to neighbours who witnessed the incident, the man was trying to save his mother-in-law from a beating, when the assailant mistakenly stabbed him in the neck.

The deceased, who lived in the same apartment as his mother-in-law, after hearing a huge commotion from his house, rushed to the scene, only to find a huge fight.

Upon arrival at the scene, the man was devastated to find his relative receiving a beating and getting overpowered by the other woman, forcing him to intervene and save her.

Unfortunately, when he stood between the two to stop the fight,  the jilted woman took out a kitchen knife, intending to attack her rival, and stabbed the man instead.

Onlookers upon realizing he had been stabbed tried to save his life, while the assailant taking advantage of the confusion fled to an unknown location.

“The other woman stabbed him in the neck, but she was aiming for the mother-in-law, who she claimed was stealing his lover,” an eyewitness noted.

Sosiot police officers, who responded to the scene, immediately moved the body to the Kericho Referral Hospital, where it is being processed for postmortem.

The officers also launched an investigation in search of the escapee, asking residents to report any information regarding her whereabouts to speed up the case.

On January 23, another middle-aged man was stabbed to death at an apartment in the Mwariki area in Makuru, after an altercation with a woman over a suspected love triangle.
