“We wish to inform the public of the death of Mr. Kingori Mwangi, a retired police officer. Kingori passed on this morning at a Nairobi hospital where he was receiving treatment. The family will update the public on the burial plans".

King’ori served as the Assistant Inspector General of Police, until 2018 when Japheth Koome replaced him.

He later moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was attached until his retirement after leaving the Assistant Inspector General position.

King’ori also served as the director of operations at police headquarters, police spokesman, director of Kenya Police Campus in Kiganjo and principal assistant.

The police boss who was recognised as a smart man had risen through the ranks while keeping his life away from the public eye.

A glimpse of his private life was featured in 2021, when he eulogized his wife, Mercy Wangiri after she passed on in 2019.

He, however, made headlines in 2021 when a car he was driving rammed into two pedestrians in Lang’ata, while reportedly taking a pregnant woman to hospital.

The police boss, later confirmed that he had made efforts to avert the disaster but had failed to do so, resulting in the accident.

Additionally, King’ori also made headlines when his house was raided in August 2021 with the robbers taking his domestic workers hostage for eight hours and making away with valuables and a gun that belonged to the police boss.
