Foreign affairs journalist Mwangi Maina has left the Standard Media Group after six years of service.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, Mwangi stated that he would be leaving to pursue career progression in other avenues.

“Yes, it is true! I left the Standard Group,” Maina confirmed, adding that he was grateful for the stint that led to his rise as a guru in diplomacy and government relations.

Apart from producing daily shows on KTN News Kenya, Mwangi also worked in print and digital media desks for The Standard Media Group’s Newsroom.

He also boasts of being the pioneer of the show, the Diplomat, a series focusing on Diplomacy, Foreign Policy and African Great Lakes Region affairs.

However, despite having left the Standard Mwangi spoke highly of the media house, adding that he had achieved various milestones over the 6 years.

Mwangi joined the station in 2018, as a news producer before rising through the ranks and hosting his show on the network.

"The past six years have been filled with interesting experiences, and I depart with optimism that SG will regain its stability and position," Mwangi Maina noted.

In the past few weeks, the Mombasa Road-based media house has witnessed major exits, with journalists opting to grow their careers in other media houses.

On February 3, Brenda Czeda Radido quit the station after 5 years, a few weeks after business anchor Jimmy Mbogo was poached by Citizen TV.

"To some personal news now, my time at KTN/KTN News has come to an end after what was a very fulfilling year of storytelling. We have told stories both locally and abroad in a year that has thrown us some serious curveballs, testing my skill endurance and passion for business journalism. I look back with great joy and pride for what we achieved," Mbogoh stated while reading the news bulletin on Wednesday, January 3.

The exits come at a time when the media house has experienced financial struggles, failing to meet its financial obligations including paying salaries on time.
