The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has expressed concerns over applications submitted by students who scored Grade D and E in the 2023 KCSE.
In a statement dated Saturday, the placement body expressed that the applications were low compared to the students who sat the exams.
Notably, those who scored Grades D and E represent the highest number of 2023 KCSE candidates. According to the results, 494,317 students out of the 895,533 students scored Grade D and below.
Therefore, the candidates were advised to take advantage of the extended deadline to submit their applications to join various tertiary institutions.
KUCCPS extended the deadline for applications to February 26.
On the other hand, the 494,317 students were advised to focus on courses in TVETS which was not crowded with applications.
"The number of applicants selecting degree programmes is higher than those applying for TVET courses so far. KUCCPS encourages those with mean grades between C and E to take advantage of the available TVET opportunities.
"Particularly, applicants with D+ and E are still very low and we are encouraging them to apply. They should walk into their nearest TVET institution for assistance," read the statement in part.
Additionally, students with challenges can also visit various Huduma Centres across the country for assistance.
KUCCPS opened the application portal on February 8 to enable students to pick the courses and universities of choice. Courses offered range from degrees, and diplomas to certificates.
Applications are processed on the KUCCPS student portal: www.student.kuccps.net.
"On the menu bar, click "Application/Revision". You will see either one or two forms for submitting the programme codes at different levels. Type the programme codes that you noted down earlier, in the relevant form. (To minimise errors, you will not be able to copy and paste the programme codes.)
"As you type the codes, you will notice that the system will be "Fetching Data" and "Checking Requirements". Allow these processes to complete before you submit. Once the system has completed fetching data and checking requirements, it will display the name of each programme under the respective codes, and indicate if the student meets the minimum requirements." KUCCPS advised.
