Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday offered a full university scholarship to the son of retired Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police Zachary Mwangi King’ori.

Speaking during the burial of the former police boss in Nyeri, Uhuru disclosed that Kingori's son was pursuing his studies at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) at the time of his father's death.

He added that the student had yet to complete his education, thus necessitating him to sponsor his studies.

Further, he revealed that he would liaise with allies of the former police boss to ensure that the student smoothly transitions into the employment sector

"I have also indicated to my daughter (King'ori's daughter) here that even his brother who is still at JKUAT and has not finished will be schooled by me. I will stand with him until he finishes school.

"We will also work with other friends to ensure that he is settled after completing school so that he can continue with their father's legacy," the former President announced.

On the other hand, Uhuru also donated Ksh1 million towards a foundation that was run by the former police boss who he credited for helping needy students by paying their fees.

King'ori, he added, was a good friend and a kind-hearted man who was always willing to ensure that the less fortunate were catered for.

"He had that foundation at Strathmore which he continued to support and ask for money. The fact that he is not here does not mean that it should stop. In memory of my friend and brother, I pledge Ksh1 million so that we can educate more and more children," he stated.

On his part, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua promised that the government would support King'ori's children given that their mother also passed on a few years ago.

King'ori died on February 11 after being admitted to a Nairobi-based hospital.
