Motorists were stuck along Thika Road after three vehicles collided, blocking the main highway leading to the city.

The accident which occurred near the GSU flyover involved a lorry, a truck and a car with the occupants of the three vehicles trapped inside the wreckage.

Eyewitnesses claimed that a crane truck lost control, veered off its lane on the busy highway and crashed into the lorry and Toyota car.

Some road users rushed to rescue the trapped passengers, with some claiming that ambulances were yet to arrive at the crime scene.

Others tagged emergency service providers online, like the St John's Ambulance, urging them to respond to the accident.

Nonetheless, other road users resorted to trekking and using alternative routes to beat the traffic snarl-up.

"There is a terrible crash at Thika Road just before GSU flyover. People are trapped in... and no police or ambulance. Ambulances are needed right now," one road user requested.

In photos shared widely, the three vehicles were crumpled, and deformed, with glasses shattered and strewn along the highway.

Police were yet to arrive at the scene of the accident by the time of publishing this article.

No fatalities were also reported in the morning accident. The exact number of victims was also yet to be established.

The Thika Road carnage comes barely three days after nine people died in a road accident in Nyakach, Kisumu County, with eight critically injured.

The accident which occurred along the Katito-Kendu Bay highway occurred after a truck ferrying sand lost control and crashed into a 14-seater matatu.

Casualties were rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital for first-aid treatment while dead bodies were ferried to a nearby morgue.
