The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has yet again extended the application deadline for courses as hitches on the portal persist.

In a notice dated Sunday, April 25, the placement service announced that it was extending the application period indefinitely until it ascertains that all students eligible have made their applications.

The application deadline had earlier been set for Monday, February 26.

"The application deadline, which was set for February 26, 2024, has been extended until KUCCPS ascertains that all targeted students have applied," read the statement in part.

"During the ongoing application process, every student is a first-time applicant since KUCCPS discontinued applications at the school level."

The service further asked the students to ensure that they avoid double payments indicating that verification process takes longer since the government moved all its paybill services to a single number.

"Since payments for Government services have been migrated to the eCitizen platform, the process of payment validation for the KUCCPS application is longer than before. Applicants are advised to avoid making double payments," added the statement.

"The processing of applications for placement will start once KUCCPS is sure all applicants have submitted their course choices based on the targeted number of students. Therefore, no one will be disadvantaged on the basis of the day or time they made their applications."

KUCCPS further indicated that after the first placement exercise, there will be two revision opportunities that will be provided for students who will not have applied, or those who will not have secured their selected courses, to reapply.

This marks the second time the service has announced an extension after failing to fix its system for students.

At the time, KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome noted in a statement that all students would be placed in institutions of higher learning and extended the duration to February 26.

"I take this opportunity to assure all those seeking training opportunities through the KUCCPS portal that no one will be left behind,” he stated.

Parents and students complained that the application process was majorly affected by the delay in processing of payments.

“Error: Please wait for the payment to reflect to complete the application,” the site read after payment was done, halting the process temporarily," one user complained.

“But this extension will be useless if the system does not improve, imagine trying to apply one application for the last few days without success,” the user added.
